American Dream
you have to protect you dream. guard it from cynicism & manipulators. guard it even from your own fear of failing. from your sinking feeling that it won’t happen.
the most pure things draw human leeches. those trying to attach to your very pure dream. to them the purity of it shows innocence and foolishness. their goal is to suck dry all your resources in the promise that they can make it happen for you, while taking all the tools you need to make it happen for yourself & pocketing it.
in a world of noise, misunderstanding, feeling unseen- they know exactly how to come close and light up the very depth inside of you. one you keep quiet in fear of sounding dumb.
america built its institutions and systems on lack. give people crumbs. forming something to constantly desire. and there will always be an insatiable hunger. this hunger is what causes us to connect with the american dream. we crave a way out and up and through. there are success stories, of following a dream - seeing it come to fruition though no one else believed. but where is the fostering of those early dreamers?
where is the protection of our deep hopes? how many dreams have been lost because someone took advantage? dangling a carrot in front of their nose, knowing they wouldn’t reach it.
we must protect our dreams& the greatest protection of them is belief.
if we believe a pure thing is like pure gold, we would defend it. gold goes through fire to become stronger, takes the elements benefits for itself. it is only purified, improved, strengthened. belief in a dream allows us to be slow to others words about it. to be cautious of tricks. to be careful of imitations of the life we are meant to live. to run far from them. just a bit of your dream in your daily life is not enough. just a shadow of your vision is not enough. just an hour a day spent in creativity, is a good start, but not enough.
the american dream is an illusion. it keeps you pedaling toward the wrong things. it causes you to fall into traps. it promises money but not fulfillment. it promises a future, but one chained to capitalism. it preaches greed & self destruction. lust but not love. fleeting happiness, not joy.
on stolen land with its washed away heritage & its history books of lies. we live in the very same system that found newness & through it birthed genocide.
still there are no reparations for the descendants of slaves. no recognition of america’s deep horrific sin.
there should be statues of the people lost. highways named. money given. tears from the church. who chained people under the name of God. what greater curse is there?
that is where it all began. christianity for gain. to exploit. it’s roots still crack their way into new soil. every single day.
the hijacking of dreams. trading it out with a fake. gift that turns to ash in your mouth.
the american dream was born on “take”
so today we still give our greatest dreams- their purity is fuel
for impossible gain.
